All in Good Time
Have you ever heard someone say, “There’s got to be more to life than this,” when they’re feeling stressed or weary about a situation they’re dealing with? Even if you’re not struggling with something, surely the thought has crossed your mind about what lies beyond your death. Is heaven real? Will we really live a glorious eternity with our Father? These are questions that we don’t have answers to this side of heaven, but for the believer, we turn to the bible, our Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” When I read this verse, the part about “setting eternity in the human heart,” made me think about a homing device God placed inside of us; another of God’s mysteries to keep us moving forward towards Him. I thought of birds and how they migrate towards different climates throughout the year. Something deep inside of us tells us there’s something more, and like a magnet, we’re migrating towards it, even though we don’t quite understand it.
As believers, we can find hope in this verse, knowing that there is so much more beyond our pain and suffering. What we experience here on earth is NOT the final chapter. God sees ALL of eternity, past, present and future, and has purpose for it all. His omniscience is unfathomable to us; there is no way for us to grasp the measure of His ability or the depth of His love for ALL that He has created for us. Earth-shattering, mind-blowing, amazing and inconceivable…the knowledge we have of Him is but a grain of sand compared to who He is what He can accomplish, when we allow Him to. The beginning of Ecclesiastes, chapter 3, tells us that there is a time and a season for everything under heaven. God has ordered time, He has ordered our steps…don’t overthink it…our job is to fall in and follow the leader, saving all our questions to the end.
