Are You Kingdom-Minded?
I occasionally send my kids, and kids-in-love, scripture to start their day. This week, I sent them 1 Corinthians 10:31 “Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” Then I added “when we stay kingdom-minded, it is easier to honor God in all we do.”
Afterwards, I questioned whether they even knew what ‘kingdom-minded’ really meant. I know I didn’t…even as a baby believer, that was WAY over my head. But sitting under Pastor Jerry for over 20 years, I’ve come to understand a few things. To me, being ‘kingdom-minded’ is a state of mind when we turn to God’s direction or solution before we trust in what the world says. It’s putting aside what we think and seeking His truth first in our day to day instead of the so-called truth that society pushes. It’s thinking outside the box with our eyes and ears open so that we recognize when He’s giving us guidance.
I’m reminded of a situation that is truly unworthy of writing about, however, I used a principle Pastor taught us to solve my “problem.” When we built our house, the door handles we put in had a little push button to lock them, along with the deadbolt. After a while, the ones we used the most were starting to break down, and we ended up replacing them. But the new ones were different; they had a little knob in the middle that you turned horizontal to open and vertical to lock. For the life of me, I could not remember from one day to the next, which was locked and which was unlocked. Then I remembered a message Pastor had preached about relationships. He said that we connect horizontally with our friends and family here on earth, but our relationship with our Heavenly Father is a vertical one. In my mind, it made sense that when the knob is vertical, the door is locked and I’m protected, just like I’m protected by God. From then on, it was easy to remember which was which.
To me, THAT is kingdom-minded…using all you know about God, applying it daily, so that your life is enriched. I can’t prove it, but you can’t disprove it!!
