Christmas Doesn’t End December 26th
Christmas time for the believer is a refreshing opportunity to display and show our faith without condemnation or ridicule. It “seems” more acceptable this time of year when manger scenes are out, children are angels in a play, and Christmas carols sing of the birth of our Savior. But then what?
January rolls around and it’s almost as if there’s a JESUS On/Off button and with a flip of a switch, it all gets turned off for 11 months. The decorations are put away, the festive songs are replaced with secular choices, and we complain about the credit card statement because we overspent. But wasn’t the miraculous gift of God meant for eternity, a reason to celebrate every day we wake up and take a breath? I’m not talking about Christmas 24/7, although I know some who would be okay with that…I’m just suggesting that instead of dreading the next 11 months, until we do it all again, why not rejoice EVERY day because God loved us enough to let His Son die for us so that we may live forever with Him in heaven.
Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Each day is a precious gift from God, with new mercy, grace and opportunity.
Job 10:12 “You have granted me life and steadfast love, and Your care has preserved my spirit.”
James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” The presents under the tree can’t hold a candle to the gifts from our Father…the provision to buy those gifts, our health, our family…these are the things to celebrate all year long.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” This gift was not meant for a season; THIS gift was meant for eternity.
