Give to Get

Here is a thought-provoking statement, “If you're not happy with what you're getting, take a look at what you're giving." Unfortunately, we’ve become a nation of entitlement; we think we are owed everything without having to work for it. Sorry, that’s not how I was raised. I was brought up to believe that the world was my oyster, meaning anything is possible, but I would have to work hard for it.

When we’re unhappy with what we’re getting out of life, most of the time, we don’t look within, instead we look outward, blaming circumstances and other people, anything or anyone except ourselves. But a lot of the time, the things we are experiencing are because of poor choices…this could relate to health, finances, relationships…most areas of our lives. When we start investing outside ourselves, the giving of our time, talent, and treasure to the church and community, we start to see a shift in our own lives. Our outlook changes, our purpose evolves, our countenance improves, overall making us happier and giving us determination to press on.

2 Corinthians 9:6 “whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” We certainly can’t outgive God, so why would we deny blessings for ourselves by being stingy with our giving? We all understand the principle of sowing and reaping…you can’t plant an apple seed and get an orange. So it is in life, you can’t be hateful and angry and expect others to be kind and generous to you. When we pour into the lives of others, we can expect that God will pour into ours, because the bible says that our giving pleases God. But for some, all they see with the word “getting,” is financial gain. The more you practice this giving/getting thing, you will truly understand the old adage, “it’s better to give than to receive.” The feeling you get when you do good to someone, in any way, is far more valuable than paper currency.

The law of giving is simple, give what you seek to get. I will leave you with some quotes about giving that I hope will inspire you.

“Only by giving are you able receive more than you already have.” Jim Rohn.

“Always give without remembering and receive without forgetting.” Brian Tracy

“No one has ever become poor by giving.” Anne Frank

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Winston Churchill
