“Mistake” Is Not a Bad Word
Seen on a bill board, “Don’t be afraid to start over again. This time, you’re not starting from scratch, you’re starting from experience.”
We ought to thank God every day that He is a God of second chances…and He gives a LOT of second chances! We mess up…all the time…every day; that will never change until we stand at the pearly gate. None of us is perfect; there’s no need for a pity party thinking you’re the only one in the boat. Instead, we need to learn to pick ourselves back up and try again. No one said life is easy, but as believers, we need to show the world how it’s done…show them Who has our back!
Have you ever seen a baby NOT learn to walk just because they fell down the first time they tried? Of course not! They are eager to be like Mommy and Daddy…thinking “if they can do it, so can I!” When we stumble in life, the best thing we can do is ask God to grow us; to teach us what we did wrong and how to fix it so that we don’t make the same mistake again. That is experience.
As parents, we try to shelter our kids from making mistakes, but sometimes we’re not doing them any favors, for it’s in those mistakes that they learn life lessons. That’s hard to do…it’s why they call it “tough love.”
Making mistakes or stumbling in life is not the problem, it’s when we fail to get up or learn anything to change the outcome. When we start over from experience, we already have a leg up on the competitor…we know where the pot holes are and how to avoid them.
