Proud to be a Prequel
In 1977, the science fiction genre rocked America with the opening of the movie Star Wars. Within nine years, two more sequels had been released. I am not a Star Wars expert so I won’t claim to know the mind of George Lucas and whether a slew of prequels was always part of the plan or whether that idea came later. But sixteen years after Return of the Jedi was released, Lucas decided to go back and tell the long history or how Luke, Chewy, Darth and Princess Leia came to be. For me, I found it all quite confusing, but for true SW fans, they were enthralled. The way I see it, the problem with prequels is you already know how the story ends.
As a believer of Jesus Christ, I’ve chosen to believe that God sent His son to this earth to save the lost and die for our sin. Many movies have been made telling the story of our Savior, but we know how each of them ends. What got me to connecting these thoughts is that every human that has lived since the death of Jesus is like a prequel to the original story. We were all a part of God’s original plan, and whether we lived in the 16th century or the 21st century, He knew each of our stories before we were ever created and He knows the end.
In the epic Star Wars series, many battles were fought. They may be fictional battles fought with light sabers and drones, but in the end, we know who won the war. No matter how many battles we may face or witness in our lifetime, the war has already been won…Jesus made sure of that.
