And THAT’s the Truth!
As I was driving today, I heard a line in a song that literally made me pull over and make a note of the lyrics and artist, so I could pass them on to you. The artist is Megan Woods and the song is, “The Truth.” It’s a very powerful song that ‘truly’ describes our Father’s love for us. But the line that touched me most was in the bridge; “I know who I am, 'cause I know who You are.”
I think people have probably struggled with who they are what’s their purpose since the beginning of time. Noah found his purpose when God asked him to do the impossible. Moses, a stutterer, found his purpose when God asked him to be a leader. We used to say that someone was having an identity crisis if they couldn’t figure out who they were meant to be. Now we live a world with an identity crisis of its own; it tells people they aren’t who they were born to be, confusing even the youngest generation. The antidote to confusion is the Word of God.
The chorus of the song goes like this. “The truth is I am my Father's child; I make Him proud and I make Him smile. I was made in the image of a perfect King; He looks at me and wouldn't change a thing. The truth is I am truly loved, by a God who's good when I'm not good enough. I don't belong to the lies, I belong to You, and that's the truth.” These are not just song lyrics, it’s entirely based on scripture. 1 John 3:1 “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” Genesis 1:27 “God created man in His own image.” Isaiah 43:4 “You are precious and honored in My sight, and…I love you.” Psalm 107:1 “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. Mark 10:18 “No one is good except God alone.” John 8:44 “He [Satan] is a liar and the father of lies.” Isaiah 43:1 “I have called you by name, you are mine.” John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life.’”
Do you know who God is? I don’t just mean you believe in a “higher power” or you refer to Him as the “big guy in the sky.” Do you really know Him? Can you read all those scriptures and claim them as truth for yourself? The only way to discover who you are is to know the Father, your Creator, because He designed you to have a relationship with Him. When you connect with God on that level, you too can sing of how much He loves you and how pleased He is with you. You can praise His goodness while recognizing His grace which covers your failures. You can rejoice that He created you in His perfect image and you can shout out that you no longer belong to the world, but that you are a child of the King! And THAT’S the truth.
