Stepping Off Into Nothing Could Be Everything
At our church, we have a zipline off a 40-foot tower. The first time I went off that tower, I was VERY nervous, knowing as a kid I would climb down the ladder of the high dive at the local swimming pool because I couldn’t make myself jump off. I wouldn’t say I’m afraid of heights, but standing on a little platform, harnessed to rope that would take me flying down 300 feet of cable, is not easy. The hardest part for me was stepping off that platform into nothingness. I had to make the move to make it happen, although sometimes Pastor gently “nudges” people off! I had to trust that the harness and the rope would perform and have faith that I would survive!
In Genesis 12:1, God told Abraham to go into a land that He would show him. This means Abraham didn’t know where the end destination would be, he just had to be obedient to take the first step and trust that God would be faithful to show him along the way. God was pleased with Abraham’s faithfulness and obedience, so He blessed him, making him the father of many nations, the father of future kings, establishing a covenant between God and me.
In our journey to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives, there will be times when He will ask us to do something that requires us to step out of our comfort zone, something that may seem without rhyme or reason at the time. But if we can trust and obey like Abraham did, we may come to find that stepping off into nothing could mean everything!
