WhaT Has He Done for You?

I had another God-song moment today…a song that I’ve heard for a long time, but God allows me to hear it like it’s the first time and reveals a nugget for me to ponder. The song is You’ve Already Won by Shane & Shane. The lyrics that caught my attention were, “I don't know what You're doing, but I know what You've done.” Two short sentences, but they pack a punch.

How many times have you struggled with a situation and shaking your fists at heaven, you ask, “God, what are You doing!?!” You’re not really blaming Him, you’re just frustrated because you can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. Job 13:24 “Why do you hide your face and consider me your enemy?” We know Job was a Godly man, so why would he question his Lord? Frustration. We don’t see the whole picture, but God does and if we believe that His wisdom is greater, then we have to trust that somehow, He’s going to see us through it. In His infinite grace and mercy, He does not reject us when we get frustrated and question Him; instead, I believe He probably welcomes it as an honest response to our trials, an opportunity for Him to grow us and for us to learn to depend on Him more.

The second sentence…I know what You’ve done. Five little words that have great impact. When we look back and remember ALL the ways God has moved in our lives…how many times He’s rescued us from harm, provided for us just in the nick of time, or how He’s loved us through our pain and sorrow. These past remembrances should bring us comfort and a sense of relief knowing He is in control and even if we can’t see it, He is working. Job 17:11-12/19:25 “My days have passed, my plans are shattered. Yet the desires of my heart turn night into day; in the face of the darkness light is near…I know that my redeemer lives.”

It is not for us to know what God is doing at all times. It’s only for us to know what He’s already done.
