Coincidence or Miracle?

Coincidence or Miracle.jpg

The other day, Dennis and I were talking about someone we know, wondering how they can live in fear and anxiety when we know firsthand that they’ve seen for themselves the miracles of God, same as us. My exact words were these, “when you see stuff for yourself, why wouldn’t you seek that stuff for yourself?”

I shared with our Two or More prayer group that when I pray for our bass player, Pat Sharp, I ask that everyone that is caring for him, especially if they aren’t saved, would be in such awe of his progress and that they’d want to know more about this God we keep talking about. It’s hard for me to understand that someone can witness before their very eyes something that can’t be explained, yet they walk away citing it as mere coincidence.

Webster’s defines coincidence as “a remarkable concurrence of events or circumstances without apparent causal connection.” The dictionary defines a miracle as “a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws.” Sound familiar? So, what’s the difference? Perspective.

Perspective is all about choice. I choose to believe that there is no such thing as coincidence, that those remarkable events are the work of my heavenly Father, and not just some occurrence that happened in my favor. If you are the tiniest bit curious, that is God tugging at you to seek a new perspective, to open your eyes and mind to an alternative explanation. Don’t be caught on the outside looking in; start seeing for yourself the hand of God in the good things that are happening in your life. It starts with perspective. Colossians 3:2 “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
