Insurance or Assurance
Many years ago, I played chicken with a yellow pole in a Wal-Mart parking lot and the pole won. The pole won BIG. I wiped out the whole driver’s side of the truck…I guess taking our town’s school motto “Go Big, Or Go Home” a little too far. The worst part was that in just a few months, that truck was supposed to go to my daughter when she turned 16. After calling my insurance agent and sending her the awful pictures, she scheduled an adjuster to come and assess the truck. He came with his camera and clip board, made notations of every crack and dent, and in the end, all Dennis and I could do was pray for favor. Well, the report came back that they were totaling our vehicle; the damage was beyond repair and beyond the value of the truck.
In life, we mess up, we “wreck,” and the world tells us we’re damaged goods, there’s no point in trying to fix us, we no longer matter or have value. But God is like that adjuster that came out, except He does His assessment a little differently. He sees each dent and makes a notation, “I remember this dent made her a bolder witness. This crack deepened his faith in Me. This one gave her more courage. That one gave him more strength.” Each crack and dent ADDS value to His assessment of your life and His final report describes you as better than before.
We may have insurance for our cars, but we have assurance for our life, that God doesn’t shake his head at us when we hit a pole. He finds a way for us to be a better person BECAUSE of the pole. Don’t let Satan slither through the cracks and attack your mind with thoughts of inadequacy or worthlessness. Instead, let the light of Jesus shine through the cracks and if anyone asks, you can tell them God adjusted you and Jesus made the repairs.
