Living In His Presence

My husband often works the video for Pastor’s live streaming. Recently, he had to go into the computer and make some storage room for the new sermons and saw that just over a year ago, Pastor had preached on Obed Edom, which was the scripture reference he had used in the sermon we’d just heard the day before. Now, I’m not trying to out my Pastor, I just want to emphasize that the Word of God is called the “Living Word” because it is applicable to our lives today. What spoke to you a year ago may not be what speaks to you today. The message of Obed Edom has a special message that speaks to us today, different than the message we heard a year ago. That in and of itself should be enough to get you excited!

To recap the story of Obed Edom, the Ark of the Lord was being carried through his town and David had to call an audible when the Ark had been touched. Obed took the Ark into his house and by default, he and his family was blessed. The part I found particularly meaningful is 2 Samuel 6:11 which says, “The ark of the Lord remained IN THE HOUSE of Obed Edom for three months.” We’ve been quarantined for over a month, stuck in our houses, but most of us probably haven’t felt blessed because of it. Obed’s family was blessed because the presence of God was with them continuously. When David came to retrieve the Ark after three months, Obed Edom packed up his family and followed the Ark. He’d experienced a transformative blessing and expected more of the same if he followed the source.

You may not always feel it, but when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the presence of God is ALSO with you continuously. God never intended for us to “visit” Him in a building, the church, in order to be in His presence. No, His plan is that you take the presence of the Lord with you wherever you go. He wants you to expect His blessing and goodness, our problem is that our expectors have expired! We no longer live life expecting the best, instead we live in fear, expecting the worst. But maybe with an ounce of trust, a seed of faith, and a renewed expectation, we could see a light at the end of the Corona tunnel and know that all things are possible with God. “Nothing changes a life more profoundly than seeing an impossible situation develop possibilities.”
