Not All Bread is Created Equal
If you go to Red Lobster, they bring you a basket of buttery, garlic biscuits. If you go to Texas Roadhouse, they bring you endless baskets of hot yeast rolls with their homemade cinnamon butter. Restraint is out the window and you can find yourself in a VERY dangerous predicament if you’re really hungry! Dennis will hoard a basket for himself and tell you to get your own! LOL! By the time you order and your food comes out, you have to ask for a to-go box after just a few bites because you are already stuffed!
Bread is filling; eating it in large portions does not leave room in our stomachs for much else. In John 6:35, Jesus tells His disciples, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to Me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst.” What if we consumed Jesus like we consume a delicious basket of bread? What if we spent so much time with Him that we didn’t have time to be idle prey for Satan?
Don’t go all literal on me…I’m not saying God wants you to live as a monk. He wants us to prosper and have abundant life; but we CAN be prayed up, prepared always to do God’s will and to fight off the devil. We can cultivate our relationship with Jesus by reading the Word daily, studying its promises and directives and remaining in constant communication with Him. When we do this, we are consumed with Christ; we get so full of Him that nothing else in the world interests us. Satan WILL tempt us, but when our love for Jesus is all-consuming, we can show great restraint towards sin.
