Spring Cleaning
It’s that time of year…the season which gives us the bright idea that our house is in need of a deep cleanse…those two dirty words…Spring Cleaning! We declutter closets, get down our hands and knees to scrub baseboards, and dust in places dust shouldn’t be. We wash windows, maybe make minor repairs…things that just aren’t part of our daily or weekly routine of maintaining our homes. As overwhelming as it may seem, and as hard as the work is sometimes, it is a satisfying to see the results when it’s all said and done.
I’m not sure, but maybe we do this in the springtime because spring is the season of new life, so why not start fresh with a cleaner house? 1 Thessalonians 4:7 says “For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.” The Message bible says it like this, “God hasn’t invited us into a disorderly, grungy life but into something holy and beautiful—as beautiful on the inside as the outside.” Our bodies are like a house, a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit, and it is our job to make sure we keep our houses clean…not just in the spring, but all year around. We need to declutter our minds and get down on our hands and knees and examine the places in our souls that rarely get our attention. We need to dust the cobwebs from our light fixtures so that our love for Jesus shines bright for all to see. All of this so that we are as beautiful on the inside as we are on the outside.
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Maintaining our bodies, both physically and spiritually, is sometimes hard to do, but you’ll like the results and the best part is, so will your Heavenly Father.
