The Need to Be Needy

The Need To Be Needy.png

When we speak of the needy, most often we are talking about the homeless, the downtrodden, those who are in unfortunate circumstances or who need assistance. But there is one example of “needy” that represents power and great strength, and that is when we are needy for Jesus.

In the eyes of some, our neediness of God can appear to be weakness, but in the heart of the believer, we understand that God is made strong in our weakness; His power resides in us and allows us to accomplish great things.

In this world, it is easy to want to captain your own ship, to have complete control over your life, but that often leaves holes, or voids, that only you know about. To others you may appear to have it all together, but inside, you know something is missing. The world offers a variety of hole fillers…alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex…and all may give you temporary comfort, but after a while all you’ve done is create more problems. Why not trade your problems for His presence?

When we fill the emptiness inside of us with His presence, there’s no more room for all those other things that gave us only fleeting satisfaction. Don’t get discouraged if the process doesn’t happen overnight. Think of it like cleaning out a closet…the decision to do it is easy, the task, on the other hand, could be daunting and take a while, depending on the amount of clutter that is stashed away. If you’re like me, sometimes you just shut the door and walk away from it because it’s too overwhelming. It’s easy to invite Jesus into your heart, but afterwards, you have to allow Him time to declutter and reorganize. During the process, try to remain hopeful with the promise that God always finishes what He started.
