Turn Your But Around
When I was growing up, if I tried to shirk my chores or homework to do something more fun, my mom would tell me to turn my butt around, march right back to my room and take care of my responsibilities first. As an adult, I’m still turning my but around, hopefully in a different and more purposeful way.
Even if you speak properly, using good grammar and pronunciation, you’ve most likely fallen into the but trap; for example, maybe your kids are giving you a hard time and you tell your friend, “I love my kids, but they are driving me CRAZY!” Everything before the “but” just got washed away in a flood of negativity. What if we changed it around? “My kids are driving me crazy, BUT I love them and they are my gift from God.” Do you see the difference?
When you look at the buts in the bible, the negative always comes before the but, which means what? It gets washed away in a flood of positivity…it means NOTHNG! 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 says “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” Think about it, we will be bruised in this life, BUT it doesn’t matter, because we are not crushed. We may fall down, BUT it doesn’t matter because we will not break. Are you catching it? These verses tell us that we WILL go through hard times, BUT we will survive because God is always bigger than our storms, we just have to trust in Him. Practice today turning your buts around. In the end, you’ll be glad you did!
