What’s In Your Tool Belt?

What if you hired a plumber and he came to fix your pipes with a nail gun and a table saw? Or maybe you hired someone to replace your roof and they came with a set of wrenches and some electrical tape? Each trade has its own tools that are necessary to do the job effectively and without these tools, the person doing the job is certain to fail.

Being a believer of Jesus Christ is a trade skill, and just like an electrician or plumber, we also need tools to do our jobs effectively. So, what kind of tools should we have in our tool belt? Prayer is a useful tool; when used properly, problems get hammered out. The bible is another must-have tool for the believer. The Word of God saws through any lies and deceit we encounter on our daily walk. You’ve got to have praise and worship in your tool belt, too. Our worship, our gratitude and thanks, seal our relationship with our Father, like a solid, unbreakable weld by a metalworker. One tool believers often overlook is the church. A like-minded body of believers is like a crane or scissor lift, a monster machine that can pick you up when you’re down; it can support your weight when you are burdened with troubles. It may not fit in you tool belt, but its good to have it on speed dial and activated at the first sight of demolition.

Most trades work under an apprenticeship system, where someone new at the trade works with an experienced tradesman, one who has mastered his skills. When we accept Jesus, we are young apprentices working with The Master, the One whose skills were perfected on the cross.
