What’s In Your Basket?

As a kid, I remember hunting for plastic eggs at Easter. I have vague memories of a place my parents took me and my brother, of wide-open spaces with tons of kids. For the younger kids, the eggs were easy to find and for the older kids, they were more strategically hidden. Most of the time, the Easter eggs were filled with small treasures, like candy, stickers or coins. For these hunts to take place, someone had to go before us to “hide” the eggs filled with goodies.

In our daily walk as believers, the bible tells us that God goes before us to set our path. How much easier might our journey be if we approached each new day eager to find Him along the way? Instead of starting our day dreading the tasks ahead, what if we recognized God’s grace upon waking, giving thanks that we have breath and another day to bring Him glory. What if every day was like an Easter egg hunt? What if we started our day excited to find what God has set out for us, remembering along the way that not all treasures from God are desirable to us. They may be small hurdles or large mountains, but in God’s eyes they are valuable treasures because they make us become stronger believers, in need of Him.

Sometimes people have a hard time finding God in their circumstances. Their emotions regarding the situation cloud their vision, making it impossible to see the opportunity or treasure God has laid out. Colossians 2:2-3 (TLB) “For God’s secret plan, now at last made known, is Christ himself.  In Him lie hidden all the mighty, untapped treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Sometimes the eggs are hard to find, but this verse tells us that the mystery of God has been made known, through Christ Jesus, for anyone willing to seek Him. “Untapped treasures,” do you know what that means? Brand new, unused, unlimited….wow! Wisdom and knowledge may not be candy and coins, but with wisdom and knowledge, you can accomplish anything your heart desires, according to God’s plan.

So, while the kids are hunting Easter eggs and throwing them in their baskets, why not take time to hunt for the treasures God has laid out for you.
