The Key Is an Open Book
I have a lot of inspirational quotes or quips written in my bible, mostly from Pastor, but some from other preachers or speakers. One from way back is “Satan isn’t scared of a closed bible.” The devil is only after those who are in the Book, those who are living for Jesus…those are the ones who scare him the most.
A friend recently posted a clip from the “God’s Not Dead” movie where a man was visiting his grandmother in a nursing home. He was very successful, living the dream, making his way in life by cutting others down, while she was lonely and suffering from dementia. Unsure why he’s even there, the scene showed him asking his grandmother, who appeared to be in a daze, unable to have a conversation, why is it was she was the nicest, most beautiful person he knew, yet she was in this home withering away, while he’s been a clod and has the world at his feet. She surprised him when she spoke and said, “Sometimes the devil allows people to live a life free of trouble, because he doesn’t want them turning to God. Their sin is like a jail cell…accepted, though nice and comfy, there doesn’t seem to be any need to leave. The door is wide open; till one day, time runs out and the cell door slams shut and suddenly, it’s too late.” The video ended with Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
When people are in the world, livin’ it up, they don’t see themselves in a jail cell, with the doors wide open. But our sin is like living in shackles, chained to doom, we just aren’t wise enough to see it until one day, it’s too late...the door slams shut and we don’t have a key. When you make the choice and turn to Jesus, that’s when Satan wakes up and takes notice. You see, you bored him before, but now…he’s on a mission to win you back. Being a believer isn’t a “get out of jail free” card, it’s a “chance” card…the chance to lean on God, to trust in His Word, to grow your faith, while He protects you and guides you when you encounter all the darts Satan WILL aim your way.
I WANT Satan to be afraid of me. I want to be the kind of woman that when my feet hit the floor in the morning, he says, “Oh crap, she’s up!” Open the book, make it known to the devil that you aren’t scared of him. Living for God is not for sissies, but it sure beats living in fear of what tomorrow brings. Don’t let the cell door slam shut before you have the Key.
