You Get What He Paid For

My husband has said for years that if dishwasher loading was an Olympic sport, I’d surely win a gold medal! That’s because…well…I’m cheap! OK…maybe frugal is a better word. I grew up watching my mom stretch a dime and I too have lived paycheck to paycheck where every penny mattered. There were times, especially when my kids were still at home, I’d run the dishwasher every day, and on special days or occasions, sometimes two or three times, if I was doing a lot of cooking and baking. I always thought that if I’m going to pay the electricity to run it, it’s going to be full, and therefore, efficient.

I have used all kinds of dishwasher detergents, the store-brand, cheaper ones and I’ve used the pricier name-brand kind. You know the saying, “you get what you pay for.” I think this may apply to dishwasher detergent, because I get more bang for my buck when I splurge and buy Cascade Platinum, which I think is the most expensive one. The little gel pack claims it has the ability to cut grease, scrub and shine my dishes, making them ‘cabinet ready’ when the cycle is over. The other day as I was strategically loading my dishwasher with some pretty dirty, not-so-rinsed-off dishes, my thought was, ‘it’s okay, I expect that Cascade pod to do what it says it can do.’ At that very moment, God said to me, “I wish you’d expect that much of Me.”

Without a care in the world, we expect our bodies to function, our cars to run when we start them, and even our dishwasher pods to scrub our dishes to a mirror shine. But on a daily basis, how much do we really expect of God, our heavenly Father, who wrote a book full of promises; assurances just for us that tell us exactly what He can and will do for us if we believe. Isaiah 30:18 (TLB) says, “Yet the Lord still waits for you to come to Him so He can show you His love; He will conquer you to bless you, just as He said. For the Lord is faithful to His promises…” He WANTS us to expect great things of Him each and every day, in ALL of our circumstances; He knows what we need, but He waits patiently for us to ask.

We live in a world that wants us to believe it has everything we need…with just the touch of a keyboard, we have the answers to all of our questions. But it is God’s desire that we seek Him first, and when we do, we can expect that He will provide for us all of our needs, because He is faithful to His promises. Don’t fall for the cheaper gimmicks of the world; Jesus Christ is the real deal!! He is the more expensive option, but in the end, you’ll be happier with His results…you get what He paid for.
