Does the Church Matter
In a world where right is wrong and wrong is right, the people of our nation are seeking answers, and some are searching in the wrong place. In a world where we can pay for our groceries with our watch, or turn our home’s A/C on from work, we are becoming needy for technology rather than needy of the Father. Acts 20:28 says, “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.” That’s a mighty big commission for pastors everywhere, as they watch more and more of their congregation retreat to cyber church, or no church, in search of answers among the multitude of viewpoints in our society.
Relativism is described as the doctrine that knowledge, truth and morality only exist in relation to culture, society or historical content, and are not absolute. What they’re missing is that the church is the ONLY place dealing with the real issues. The church provides a moral and ethical compass in the midst of relativism. One of the biggest underlying issues our nation is dealing with is race, but there is only ONE race; the human race. We stand on the solid rock of the scriptures; they are an ABSOLUTE and God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. The church provides purpose, identity, acceptance, and perspective. It’s a place of community, healing, compassion and love. Within its body of believers you’ll find encouragement, instruction, direction and support.
So, does the church matter? Absolutely! It matters more now than ever before. But, more importantly, we MUST make it matter by following the commission in Acts for ourselves, making sure our flock (our friends and families, those with whom we have influence) also realize how much the church matters. Only then will we reach all the earth, a condition of the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
